Gladiatus Tips and Hints By Hzarz'

The greatest source of gold is…
Well, I have mentioned this on the forums in several places. The best source of gold is actually arena fights, and raiding people. The easiest way to find good targets are usually the highscore list (once you get into it), and the other method is to use the search function available in Gladiatus. Go to the market, sort the items by price, and look who’s selling items that is slightly lower than your level. Get the player’s name, and use the search function to get his stats. If he’s beatable, take him out, and check how much you raid. If it’s a lot, then put him on your farming list and raid him the next day. Typically they think it’s a normal arena fight, so they keep the same amount of gold. Only after you hit them twice or so, do they start thinking otherwise. I think Michael can attest to this – I hit him twice for 1200 before he caught on . I can usually raid for 10-20K per day with this method, and I’m usually on for 5-6 hours. Also, make sure that you set a timer so that you can attack every 15 minutes (or 5 minutes if you’re premium).
If you're low level and you need gold, another way to get ahead really quickly is to buy up all the food you can get your hands on at the general store. At higher levels, food is really expensive, so higher level players will be willing to pay quite readily for food on the market. If you price your food at a reasonable level, say 2.5 to 3.5 gold per HP, you'll find that most people will buy your food. This will turn quite a tidy profit. With the upgrades so that you get gold packages from the market, this will help you get a head start. Of course, the downside of this is that, people your level will tend to attack you for overpricing food!
Gold is disposableTreat gold as disposable, and don’t hoard it. If you do, you just make yourself a target. Spend all your gold on items or training, and if you have leftovers, donate it to the guild. Don’t be afraid to spend your gold on good items, even if it is overpriced in the market. A good item >>>> gold any day of the week.
Deter attacks on yourselfThe most obvious ways to do this are:See above. Spend all your gold, so people don’t profit from raiding you.Keep yourself low in arena ranks so people don’t attack you for advancing places. Only make a push for arena ranking once you’ve leveled up enough.Keep a good build so that you’ll cause considerable damage to people at your level and even up to 2-3 levels higher. They may win, but you’ll cause them hurt.If you’re online, always ensure that your HP levels are at least 70% or higher. Lower HP level players always get attacked for the easy win.
Always stock up foodAlways check the store for food and always keep at least 4-5 food items in your backpack. To make sure you’re getting the best price, divide the price of food by the HP it gives back, then always buy the items that give the most value for money. This value will steadily increase as you level up, so you need to get a good idea what the baseline at your level will be. At level 10-19, it was around 2.5-2.8 Gold per HP, and at level 20-29, it’s around 3.0 - 3.4 Gold per HP.
How to win AuctionsContrary to popular belief, there is a systematic way to win auctions. I have won approximately 80-85% of all auctions I have participated in. The key is this:
Very short durations are always 25-30 minutes long and all durations are fixed.
Once the auction turns to short, refresh the page every 5 minutes. As soon as you see the time remaining change to Very Short, set a timer for 20-25 minutes (depending how tense you are). Watch the bidding carefully around this time, as it will typically get a little frantic. DO NOT bid before the timer runs out, despite the temptation. Once the timer runs out, then bid on the item you want. Always bid high, at least 50% over the current bid.
If you're short on time, then the auction durations below are another way to calculate when the auction ends. As long as you can catch the stage where it transitions from one to the other, you will be able to work backwards from this.

Long - 2
hour Middle - 2
hour Short - 1.5
hour Very short - 0.5 hour

Use temporary boosts to up statsFor some reason, most people do not appear to use boosts, presumably because they cost gold, and are only temporary. However, I strongly encourage their use.
Spending 1000 gold for 8 hours of +4 skill is well worth it in my mind. I get back 1000 gold via an single expedition and to train up my base stats for a +4 bonus will cost me easily 30-40K gold. Also, because of the lack of popularity, boosts can be bought very cheaply at auctions, since nobody wants to buy them. I recently spent just 1600 gold to get boosts of +4 skill and +4 agility for 8 hours. Money well spent, in my mind. Also, if your strength is say at 28, then it’s worth it to spend the money for a +2 boost that will give you the extra +1 damage.
